Have you ever tried having an entire meal of raw food and still be yearning for more?
Well, I didn’t think I’d enjoy it but after this, I am looking forward to more of eating these delicious, healthy and definitely filling dishes.
My friend, Boris Lauser, was visiting from Berlin, enroute to Bali, where he wil conduct a Raw Food Retreat to learn about raw food preparation, from the simple to the more complex techniques…
I hear so much from him, but never had the opportunity to sample his dishes so I threw him a challenge. He took it up, on the condition that I became his sous chef… hehehehe… what was he thinking?! Me?! Cook?!
Anyways, the result is truly spectacular! This is our Gourmet Raw Food Dinner, lovingly prepared by Boris… and assisted by yours truly!
We started off with marinated King Oyster Mushrooms on Spinach Cream…
Followed by minced Coriander Walnut Rice Dumplings with spicy Cranberry Onion Balsamico Dip…
And a salad of Spinach and Gotu Kola with Balsamico Mustard Vinaigrette, Chayotes, Cranberries, Pine Nuts and Pomegranate…
With a very filling Vegetable Noodle in Young Coconut Curry!
You can also follow Boris on his food adventures on www.balive.org and maybe one day you too can hire him to cook for you and your friends!
I think this was taken at the 2nd Pink Dot event in Singapore. I thought we looked in the pink of health and fun. What do you think?
Always one for great ideas, Jansen decided to celebrate his birthday up on a hill, literally, this year – Tamarind Hill, to be exact. Nestled on a quiet slope of lush greenery that is the Labrador Nature Reserve, the property overlooks (just barely, because of the dense trees) the sea.
At cocktails, he posed for photos with each member of his guests (captured no less, by a social photographer). To find your designated seat, you only need to look for the placard with your name and a lovely button pin bearing a picture of you!
While the main menu consisted of Thai favourites, the starter was a Western quartet of bite size morsels consisting of salmon, calamari, chicken and shrimp.
The highlight of the evening was when Jansen came up with a game for all to take part. In a bag, each guest had to select 4 other button pins. Each of this depicted a different photo of every one of the guests. So in total each guest would have 5 button pins with different his/her likeness on them!
Jansen then had to scroll through his ipad until someone shouts “Stop”! The picture of whoever photo was displayed on the screen won a trip to Bangkok with Jansen (at a later date), and the person who won has a chance to select another guest to go along. The catch was that he/she had to select from the four buttons that he picked from the bag!
Much friendly banter came about because of this; guests were cajoling Jansen and attempting to guilt him to showing favour for the prize! But he held firm! So the “winners” were Julie and Kevin. A great idea for a “game” and I will adapt it for a future party if I was going to have one!
I know… I have been lazy updating my blog… Anyways… Its never too late!
Last year we went to Bangkok for my birthday celebrations, this year it was Seoul…
Partners in crime included Alvin, Benny, Mubi, Rasul, Yuan and my mum!
While it was a whirlwind trip for the former 4 chaps, it was nearly 2 weeks for Yuan, mum and myself. The two of them were going for a ‘pick-me-up’ procedure while I played ‘maid’ to mum… 🙂
We walked everywhere (a lot!), shopped, ate, drank (love Soju!) and even partied one Saturday night on “Homo Hill”…
Enjoy some of the pixs here!
Yes, its that time of the year when the bidthday looms close… And for this year, I was taking off to Seoul with some close friends of mine for a short trip (more of that later…)
Kong offered to cook dinner Saturday night but didn’t offer any other information. He does this occasionally so I didn’t think anything of it… When I arrived, a group of my close friends flew out from the various rooms all dressed up… like me! They claimed that the theme was an homage to my style. LOL… Judge from the photo…
And the food, oh the food… James contributed nasi ulam, opor ayam and kerabu nanas while Kong made his famous curry yong tau foo. Vik contributed his delicious stewed chicken with chestnuts while Meng Hee brought a delicious finger-lickin’ mango salad.
For desserts we had cheng tng made by Toon’s in-law with sumptuous cupcakes doubling as birthday cake.. and washed down with Yuan’s bubbly rose champagne.
I sat with Chee Meng to blow out the candles as it was his birthday just a few days ago…
How can I not be beaming with friends like that!
I am glad that my constant nagging at friends to do some form of exercise (as we get older) to keep alert and ‘tune’ our bodies yielded some positive results.
The badminton sessions are both exhilarating and unfortunate. Former cos it really allows bonding and competition while building cardio… latter cos it also claimed several ‘victims’ in terms of sprained ankles and calf muscles… (no doubt caused by ill-fitting shoes and lack of proper warm-ups).
Now we are ‘experimenting’ with bowling… these photos here do not tell the real story as they looked like we are at a photo session.. hahaha…
Finally, Rasul got into the kitchen and cooked up a meal for us! He had this vision of chicken briyani, mutton rendang, bergedils, lumpias and achar… Well, he didn’t have time, so lumpias and bergedils didn’t make it to the table…
But we did manage to order a very delicious kueh salat cake, made by The Chalk Farm and Mubi contributed a lovely red curry chicken and Glen brought these delightfully morsels of eclairs from Tiong Bahru.
And of these washed down with tons of white wine! Nice!!
Tis the season of eating and drinking and stuffing your face silly… and it all began on Sunday, 2 days before X’mas, at Lyndon’s place where he decided to cook up an X’ms feast, complete with turkey, stuffing, carrot soup, corn, potatoes, and even pork ribs. All washed down with white, red and then some more champers… 🙂
Next it was the eve, at Rasul’s for “Gangnam Style or Prints” X’mas dinner of turkey and curry and gingerbread house, courtesy of Lynette and Gary!

This was followed by a traditional X’mas lunch feast at Sean’s and Zahari’s and cooked by Sean. Delightful!
And finally the day after X’mas, cakes, curry puffs and champers at Francisco’s…
We were trying on pair after pair of designer sunglasses in Myeongdong, Seoul, and decided to do a “Asia’s Next Top Model‘ moment.
There were only 3 photos, and the one whose name was not called was eliminated from the competition, leave 3 top finalists…
Guess who did not make the cut? Let me know… 🙂
